Registration
At the YMCA, Saturday October 13th at 8:00 am or Friday October 12th from 6-8 pm. Pre-register (postmarked) by October 5thth and receive a discount of $10.00. Mail your registration form to Walkers TKD, 9027 Portage Rd., Portage, MI 49024, 269-327-7000.
Fees
Competitors - 1 or 2 events $60.00, 3 or more events - $70.00 Spectator: Adults, Seniors and Children - $5.00, 5 years and under – free.
 
NOTE: On the day of the tournament NO personal checks will be accepted. Certified checks, money orders and cash ONLY. Personal Checks will be accepted for Pre-Registration only for those received by 10/05/07 (please see above). No refund of money once registered. The sponsors assume no responsibility or liability for any injuries, property damage, or any losses that may be sustained or incurred while attending, participating or traveling to or from the tournament.
Equipment
Participant must provide own: Head gear, Chest Protectors, Shin/Instep, Fist/Forearm Guards, Foam feet and hands, support cup (all Males) and mouthpieces. All equipment listed is MANDATORY and MUST be worn during all sparring events. Please note: Tournament director reserves the right to combine ages and or ranks.

Divisions
Boys & Girls Men & Women Belt Ranks
3 - 4   18 - 25   Novice (10, 9, 8 gups)
5 - 6   26 - 35   Intermediate (7, 6, 5 gups)
7 - 9   36 - 45   Advanced (4, 3, 2 gups)
10 - 12   Over 45   1st Dan & 1st gup
13 - 15       2nd Dan and up
16 - 17        
These divisions apply to all events except the Team Forms

Rules for Forms and Weapons

  1. Competitor’s score will be no less than 5 and no more than 10.
  2. Color Belts may ask for a restart. The judges will subtract .5 from total score

Rules for Team Forms

  1. Teams can be any belt rank
  2. Teams should consist of 2 to 3 competitors.
  3. Teams of 2 will receive a 1 pt deduction from total score.

Rules for Board Breaking

  1. Only wood will be allowed for breaking due to YMCA gym floor.
  2. Boards will be available for purchase
       3/8 Demo Board and ½ China Board - $2.00 each
       1” China Board (or Pine depending on availability) - $2.50
  3. For safety of competitors, only 2 attempts will be allowed.
  4. There will be a 1-minute set up time - strictly enforced. One point deduction for each board not set up in one-minute time. Please be sure to bring your own holders.
  5. Color Belts – 3 board maximum
  6. Black Belts – 5 board maximum

Rules for Point Sparring & Olympic Sparring

  1. Colored Belt rounds will consist of Two 90-second rounds with a 30-second rest between rounds.
  2. Black Belt rounds will consist of Two 2-minute rounds with a 30-second rest between rounds. (If Advanced Belts are combined they will follow the same rule).
  3. There will be a 2-minute rest between semi-final and final matches.
  4. Protective Equipment will be mandatory. You will have two minutes to comply or you will be disqualified if you show up in the ring without appropriate gear.

Point Sparring

  1. LEGAL TECHNIQUES
      • Hand  (Backfists and ridge hands to the helmet allowed, no forefist or punch)
      • Foot (Any part of the foot below the ankle)
    1. AREAS FOR SCORING
      • Head Area (Controlled light contact by  backfist, ridge hand or  foot)
      • Body Area (Points will be awarded for effective foot strike)
    2. VALID SCORES
      • One point will be awarded for any legal foot strike to the body or hand strike executed to the head with proper balance and technique.  Two points will be awarded for any legal foot strike executed to the head with proper balance, control and technique. Corner judges will determine sufficient force for the awarding of a point. ie  techniques must be delivered with enough power to satisfy the corner judges that a point has been scored.
    3. WARNINGS
      • ANY competitor that executes a kick to the head that results in a minor injury (bruising or abrasion) shall receive a one point deduction.
      • ANY competitor that executes a kick to the head area that results in bleeding or the inability of the opponent to continue due to the injury shall be disqualified.
      • Grabbing the opponent
      • Pushing the opponent with the shoulder, body or hands.
      • Escaping contact by turning the back.
      • Stepping out of bounds to avoid contact.
      • Attacking with unauthorized implement (knee, elbow etc)
      • Intentionally falling to avoid contact.
      • Attacking the head or face with fist.
      • Uttering undesirable remarks, or unsportsmanlike conduct (either by the athlete, coach, or any other individual associated with the athlete).
      • Gesturing to celebrate a score.

    FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE RULES WILL RESULT IN A ONE POINT DEDUCTION OR DISQUALIFICATION AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CENTER REFEREE.

    Olympic Sparring

    1. LEGAL TECHNIQUES
      • Fore Fist (NO open hand techniques, backfist, palm strike, knife hand, etc. will be allowed)
      • Foot (Any part of the foot below the ankle)
    2. AREAS FOR SCORING
      • Head Area (Controlled foot contact only.  NO hand techniques to the head are permiited)
      • Body Area (Includes the area covered by the chest guard.  Points will be awarded for effective hand or foot strike)
    3. VALID SCORES
      • One point will be awarded for any legal foot or hand strike to the body executed with proper balance and technique.  Two points will be awarded for controlled, legal foot strikes to the head. Corner judges will determine sufficient force for the awarding of a point. ie  techniques must be delivered with enough power to satisfy the corner judges that a point has been scored.

    Grand Champion

    The Grand Champion will be chosen based on the accumulation of event points. The contestants will be awarded points based on what position they earned during their events. In the event there is a tie there will be a form off between competitors. The points will be awarded as follows:

    First Place 4 points
    Second Place 3 points
    Third Place 2 points
    Fourth Place 1 point
